A striking restored Tokheim Model 39 gasoline pump finished in Texaco’s classic red and white Fire Chief livery. Designed and manufactured during the 1940s to early 1950s, the Model 39 is among the most recognizable and widely collected postwar American fuel dispensers. Its short, rounded cabinet, illuminated globe, mechanical computing register, hose, nozzle and bold helmet graphics capture unmistakable character of the neighborhood filling station.
Texaco introduced Fire Chief gasoline in 1932. Marketed as a high octane fuel formulated to meet the demanding requirements of emergency fire engines, Fire Chief became one of Texaco’s most memorable product identities. The familiar red firefighter helmet and Texaco star remained fixtures of American roadside advertising for decades. The Henry Ford’s collection includes a dated 1948 porcelain Fire Chief sign using the same red, white, black, green and helmet centered visual language seen in this restoration.
Vintage Tokiheim 39 mechanical computing gasoline pump, restored in Texaco livery, with round illuminated style globe, branded lower door panel, mechanical computer face, hose, nozzle, steel cabinet, bright trim and rolling display platform. A highly recognizable example of post war American service station design and an impressive focal point for a petroliana collection, automotive showroom, premium garage, or period commercial display. Offered as a collectible display object; operating condition has not been represented or tested.
