This impressive Ottawa Manufacturing Co. visible measure gasoline pump is presented in striking Marathon Products colors and graphics.Visible pumps such as this were widely used during the late 1920s and early 1930s, allowing customers to observe fuel being measured in the calibrated glass cylinder before gravity delivered it into the vehicle. the pump features an illuminated Marathon globe, tall glass cylinder, cast iron construction, period nozzle, and authentic Ottawa Manufacturing identification tags, making it an exceptional display piece for a premier automobilia collection.
Historical Significance:
Visible-measure pumps represented one of the most important advances in early fuel dispensing technology. Ottawa Manufacturing Company of Ottawa, Kansas, was one of the several respected American manufacturers producing durable visible pumps for independent marketers and major oil companies. Marathon products stations became known for their distinctive branding, making surviving examples especially desirable among collectors.
