Gilbert & Barker Model 67 Visible Gasoline Pump

Auction Day: Thursday, October 1

This Gilbert & Barker Model 67 visible gasoline pump is an outstanding example of the iconic American visible measure pumps that defined service stations during the late 1920s and early 1930s. Manufactured in Springfield, Massachusetts, the Model 67 employed a calibrated glass cylinder that allowed customers to watch fuel being measured before it flowed by gravity into the vehicle’s tank. This design inspired confidence in an era before modern metering systems and became one of the most recognizable pump styles ever produced.

This example is presented in the Cities Service livery with an illuminated globe and retains the classic tall visible glass cylinder, original Gilbert & Barker identification plate and period hardware. The pump displays exceptionally well and represents a centerpiece quality example for an advanced automobilia collection.
Historical Timeline:

  • 1911 – Gilbert & Barker introduces improved visible measure gasoline pumps
  • Late 1920s – Model 67 becomes one of the companies flagship visible pumps.
  • Early 1930s – Widely installed by independent and major oil companies, including Cities Service.
  • Mid 1930s – Electric metered pumps gradually replace visible pumps.
  • Today – Authentic Gilbert & Barker visible pumps are among the most sought after American service station collectibles.

Technical Specifications:

  • Manufacturer: Gilbert & Barker Mfg. Co. Springfield, Massachusetts
  • Model: 67 Visible Measuring Pump
  • Type: Gravity feed visible gasoline pump
  • Fuel Measurement: Calibrated glass cylinder

The pump has been restored for high quality display while preserving its period character. The black finish, illuminated Cities Service globe, visible cylinder, original identification plates and authentic hardware combine to create an impressive museum quality presentation suitable for premier collections, concours garages or exhibition settings.
